Etudes Project, Vol. 1: ICEBERG Performance Notes

Jonathan Russ: Knuckles

Knuckles explores the textures and timbres of house music piano, drawing in particular from the work of legendary producer Frankie Knuckles.

Rhythms should be as close to metronomically accurate as possible, but always with an ear towards maintaining propulsive energy.

Tempos may be adjusted per the needs of the performer and the room (q=116 is not strictly necessary). Small tempo changes are acceptable at the beginnings of new sections, and subtle accel / rit may be used as needed; these adjustments should not be overly dramatic, serving primarily to highlight the character of each section and to allow for performer comfort.
