Program Notes
Cradle Song is written in the rhythmic meter of 6/8, the preferred meter of a berceuse or lullaby. In this work, an ever present motif winds its way through various colorful textures, at times with melancholic expression, other times animated and playful. Steven Burke wrote the piece for Alice and Michael Nissen in celebration of the birth of their daughter Lucy on January 9, 2012. The work was commissioned by Lester and Constance Trimble.
