Program Notes
When I was younger, I had a friend who was seriously ill. I decided to write them a letter every day until I could see them again. Ultimately, I ended up writing over 30 letters. I’m not sure if my friend ever received or read them. I spent a lot of time imagining what they might have said if they were able to write back. Letters You Never Wrote, No. 6 is a sonic representation of one such imagined response.
The piece was originally written for the Tangential Winds, a chamber quarter of high school woodwind players. It was later arranged for various combinations of instruments sharing a similar range.
